We have carried your names on our membership list since September. I am sure that you understand that we cannot continue doing this. We, as well as the National Office, understand the difficulty these changes have caused in your being able to remain current with your monthly dues payments. The American Federation of Teachers (National Office) wants us to know that we are not alone. As a matter of fact, the states of Wisconsin and Alabama and several other AFT locals have found themselves in a similar situation. Our National Office will include us in a special alternative dues system for members who no longer have payroll deduction as an option for paying dues.

Every day, educators and other public employees, and the services they provide our communities, are being attacked. From challenging collective bargaining rights, to undermining the quality of public education and higher education, to decimating pensions and trying to put healthcare coverage further out of reach, working men and women across the country are under assault. And if this has taught us one thing, it's that Elections Matter.

Each year, many of our members transfer from one worksite to another. Some years it has taken us months to learn where you have been assigned to work. There is a great deal of important and beneficial information that comes from both the local and national AFT that you should not miss.

If you have lost your membership card and you would like a replacement, you may request a new card by logging on at www.aft.org/members. At the bottom of the page, click on contact the AFT Membership Department. Complete the entire form. In the drop down box select, “I need a replacement membership card.” A valid home and e-mail address must be provided. Remember your local number is 4260.
